
Today an official meeting of the chiefs of the generals staffs of armed forces, members-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been held in Khujand, Tajikistan. The meeting was devoted to discussion and conducting military-political consultations which precede the beginning of the joint anti-terrorist military command post exercise "Peace Mission-2012".
First Deputy Minister of Defence - Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Kazakhstan Ministry of Defence, Colonel-General Saken Zhasuzakov arrived in Tajikistan to participate in this meeting.
Hosts of the exercise noted that decision to hold meeting of chiefs of general staff and military political consultations simultaneously had been made for the first time. Usually these events are held separately.
During military political consultations the participants discussed international and regional situation, cooperation in security sphere, elaborated suggestion of use of troops of member-states of the SCO.
After estimation of military political situation in the region chiefs of generals staffs signed a joint operational directive on preparation and conduct of joint antiterrorist operation.
“We intend to continue close cooperation in all spheres to strengthen the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an effective mechanism to ensure security, stability and prosperity in the region and the world on the whole,” - Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan, Colonel-General Saken Zhasuzakov said. “Carrying out joint military exercises, we work on issues of cooperation and strengthen the Organization's ability to effectively resist external threats and challenges, jointly seek for solutions of current and strategic issues based on the interests of the participating countries. This will increase the level of cooperation between our armed forces in the task of ensuring security in Central Asia.
As you know the military exercise "Peace Mission 2012", which is held in the Republic of Tajikistan on the training ground Chorukh-Dayron, is attended by military units of the armies belonging to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
On the whole more than 2000 men will be involved into the exercise "Peace Mission 2012". During the exercise military units will carry out a joint operation in mountain area.
