
Today a regular meeting of defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Beijing. It was attended by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan Adilbek Dzhaksybekov.
The defence ministers of the SCO member states covered a broad range of issues in an open and friendly atmosphere, noted the progress in implementing the Plan of Cooperation of the SCO defence ministries for 2012-2013, which was adopted in 2011 in Astana.
Defence ministers paid particular attention to issues of security, peace and stability in the Organization, which have a key value for the states of the region. There were constructive ideas to enhance further the role of the SCO, including in international efforts for nonproliferation of mass destruction weapons, combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.
In his speech Adilbek Dzhaksybekov stressed that Kazakhstan made a point of cooperation within the SCO framework and considered that the Organization had great prospects and cooperation in the military areas of mutual interest, our country was intended to develop.
“Kazakhstan, in accordance with the Military Doctrine adopted in last October, intends to deepen the strategic partnership in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on the basis of common military-political interests” the head of the defence department noted.
As a result of the meeting a joint communique was adopted and the idea of joint exercises "Peace Mission 2012", which will be held from 8th to 14th of June in Tajikistan, was approved.
At the same day Defence Minister of the RK Adilbek Dzhaksybekov met with his counterpart – Chinese Minister of Defence Colonel-General Liang Guanglie. They discussed issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the defence ministries of both countries.
Within the meeting of heads of defence ministries of SCO member states the Minister adopted the Vice-President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. At this meeting it was noted the value of the previous consultation for the development of cooperation of the SCO. Defence Minister of Kazakhstan Adilbek Dzhaksybekov thanked the Chinese party on behalf of the defence ministers for its hospitality and emphasized that, according to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, "the creation of the SCO has become a natural result of the desire of the peoples, historically associated by cultural, linguistic and commercial ties, to peaceful development, good neighborliness and cooperation. The SCO represents a new culture of international relations, which in future will determine the shape and character of our region. "
After the event participants of the meeting noted that an important guide of expansion and development of cooperation of the SCO member states in defence and security areas was a further development of cooperation between the defence departments.
